At Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti we keep our fees low by using community led volunteers who help run our synagogue.
These are lay members of the community who give up their time in the spirit of chavashaft to enrich our community with traditional Jewish values.
We employ a part time Rabbi and Chazzan who officiate at many Shabbats and events during the year and run weekly Saturday Services with regular Friday night services. Our lower fee structure is designed to give all members a valued and enriched opportunity to belong to a synagogue and community that brings together ruach, spirit and meaningfulness.
NEW MEMBER FEES FOR 2021 - 2022 Will be announced soon.

Full Time Rabbi
Rabbi Danny Newman is currently permanent rabbi for both EBMC and EMS synagogues.
*includes burial rights with Jewish Joint Burial Society- six months of membership is needed to qualify for JJBS membership
The same fees apply however there will be a one off overage payment for our burial scheme. Please speak to us separately about the burial scheme fees, as this is depending upon your age at the time of joining.
Bnei-Mitzvah Programme – As part of our Bnei Mitzvah programme we run a12-month programme which is a pre-requisite of performing a bnei-mitzvah with our community.
We do not charge for our Bnei Mitzvah service, however many parents do often offer a voluntary donation to the synagogue. If our current venue is used for the Bnei-Mitzvah service there will not be a charge for that venue, however if the parents decide to use another venue then this must be paid for and organised by the parents. Many families offer a donation to our shul on the occasion of a simchah.
We would be delighted for you to get married under our auspices. This would include 2 fees:
1. An administrative fee charged by the synagogue; and
2. A rabbinic fee for helping you to prepare for your wedding and officiating at the ceremony to be discussed separately with Rabbi Danny Newman.
Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti offer access to the JJBS (Jewish Joint Burial Society) as part of our burial scheme.
Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti offer access for non Jewish partners (same or other sex) to enable them to access the Jewish Joint Burial Society mixed faith plots.
What do I get for my membership?
We are a growing community with a mix of varying ages.
We use the services of Rabbi Danny Newman for rabbinic and pastoral care.
(Pre-Covid) We offer weekly Shabbat Morning Services, monthly Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat Services and children's services are run weekly. Due to the pandemic this has been moved to online services.
We offer a real community spirit organising events such as our Monthly Friday Night Dinners (featuring our local Masorti Chazan Roland Brandman) and our most recent event, a quiz supper, raised over £1000 for the community.
We run a well organised Bnei Mitzvah programme, Aliyah, on the first Shabbat of every month providing a programme for our children who will be Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the coming months (those commencing Year 5 to 7 are welcome to join the programme) and giving them an introduction into Masorti Judaism and a chance to explore their own beliefs and Judaism.
Throughout the year we promote and host events for all of our members.
Our community is volunteer led and managed.
We form part of the Masorti Alliance of smaller local synagogues which come together to form events around the chaggim (e.g. Purim. Chanukah and Selichot Services).
We are also part of Masorti Judaism which is the UK wide umbrella under which all Masorti Synagogues sit.
As part of membership you will join the Jewish Joint Burial Society.
We encourage volunteers to help build and grow our community so that we build a better and enriched Jewish life for all of our members.
